Hi Guys,

I am in the process of building a new pc. The details are;

Core I7 6700k
NZXT Kaken X61 cooler
Gigabye GTX 970 G1 gaming graphics card
Gigabye GA-Z170X gaming 7 motherboard
2x8gb Corsair vengeance DDR4 3200
Samsung 850 pro series 512gb ssd
2x WD black 7200RPM SATA3 hdd's
LG bluray dvd combo
NZXT H440 case

Now my current pc has an old Antec TPQ1000 TruePower Quattro 1000w psu which I was planning on re-using but given its about 6 years old now I wasn't sure if it would still be a suitable psu for my current build.

Solution
The age was my main worry and weather or not the rails would supply the gfx overclocked. It was a top psu in its day and has served me well. I just ordered a evga supernova g2 750w for the new rig. That leaves my old pc complete and I will just let the kids play with it until it dies.

Thanks for the help guys

Older psu's are not guaranteed to work with the new cpu sleep states. Personally i wouldn't

That PSU should work just fine if it's in good condition. if you want to check if it is, open it and check to see if the capacitors are not swollen.

I have that exact PSU and I ran 2 x 7950s without a problem but when I got a 295x2 I had to get EVGA G2 1000w Gold because it had enough amps to run that beast.

So the answer to your question is Yes

But I recommend you get a nice gold rated 750w+ PSU, the older the psu, the more likely it is to blow and fry your whole system.

A new CPU sleep state mode hasn't been established in over 6 years.

That PSU is fine, it may be worn a little bit, but its so high power its more than enough for your system.

Cheers guys, I really am torn between weather to upgrade or not. It started out as just a basic upgrade but now the psu is all that's left. If I were to get a new one what would you guys recommend?

Your Antec was great in its' day. It's more like 8-9 years old now and ready to retire before it has an inevitable failure and hurts something in your new $1200 system.
