Question will older ram(ddr3) work in new mother board?

looking at building a new pc and thinking to save money in the short term and to get things up and running i'll just use some old corsair vengeance pro series i have left from my last build it's ddr3 2400 mhz 16 gb(2x8) I plan on using a
ASUS ROG Strix Z390-I board and an i7-9700k coffee lake cpu. Will this work or do I have to go with ddr4?

You have to go with DDR4 RAM. They are physically different, a different number of pins.
