I was looking into the same thing for ddr3L 1600:
Best Motherboard I have found is: ASUS B150-PRO D3
This is the link for it > https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132697
--Initial cost is $94.99, but it has a $30 mail-in rebate until 3/31/17 which will bring it down to $64.99.

I considered other boards in the $55-$65 range, but they all were lacking in both utility and features which would make upgrading from am3+ to 1151 with ddr3 pointless . (I'm assuming your processor...

Supported ram depends on motherboard you choose.
There are LGA1151 motherboards that support DDR3L. Physically it is possible to use DDR3 as well, but it is not recommended, because higher voltage of DDR3 will damage cpu in the long run.

and i am basically gona use it for gaming. As i game on 1366x768 will this cpu last me 3-4 years as my phenom lasted for 4 years.

Well - problem is with DDR3 voltage, it uses 1.5v.
If you are able to decrease ram voltage in BIOS to 1.35v and it still operates normally, then you can keep using your old DDR3. But decreasing ram voltage can make it unstable. Then you'll need to decrease operating frequency of ram also.

Anyway - best way still would be getting DDR4 motherboard and additional DDR4 ram for it.

You may be better off just upgrading to an FX processor... FX-4300 will barely outperform the Phenom II under optimal conditions, but the FX-6300 will outperform it hands down. Plus the FX-6300 has dropped in price some and will go down a little more especially if you get one used after April when people start upgrading their cpu with income taxes.

The problem I have run into is this:
I have researched G4560 vs FX-6300 and it's seems like a good upgrade if your using ddr4 vs ddr3 respectively; however, I have found nothing about performance of G4560 vs FX-6300 when both are using ddr3.

Does anyone know a place/link where someone has benchmarked or compared under this condition?

Solution
You will need a B250 board to avoid BIOS issues as you can't update a 100 series BIOS without a Skylake CPU (there are few exceptions). As far as I know, there are no DDR3 B250 boards so you would need DDR 4.

Going the Pentium route, you'd have options to upgrade the CPU.

Also, it would outperform an FX-6300.
