Will programs using quad-core work with other programs in background?

I'm planning on buying an i7-4790k to replace my AMD FX 8350, because of overheating problems. I was just wondering, in games like GTA:V, that use four cores, would I be able to get a smooth performance with other programs in the background (Skype, Fraps, etc.), even if it does use all four cores?

It will be able to handle games and background tasks (music, skype, etc) just fine. Better than your 8350.

The 4790K will be a big jump in performance for you. Programs will run just fine in the background while you game.
