Yes it will work, although it may not be the ideal CPU for that GPU. Get non reference if heat is an issue for you.

Depending on which vendor you choose there can be a huge difference. Check out OC3D review of the ASUS DCII 290x vs reference. Even though you are going for a 290 theyre essentially the same when it comes to the crappy reference cooling that severely inhibits the potential of the Hawaii GPU.
