Because of the recent price drop in R9 290's I was thinking about purchasing 2 of them for a crossfire setup.
I was about to purchase an XFX branded 290 until a friend of mine told me that any 290 without 3x fans will overheat when in crossfire. So I'm not sure if purchasing the r9 290 is a good idea if I have to constantly worry about it overheating and having to deal with fan noise.
If he was right will 280x's crossfire'd fare any better ?

*I don't plan on over clocking.*

Solution
well anything in crossfire CAN overheat, it just depends on your luck of the draw with the hardware and how you deal with it with your computer build. There is liquid cooling for GPUs if you want to go for that, other than that you'd have to choose a really good case and powerful case fans (some of which can be pretty silent)
