hi all ,
i have a laptop
and i set a password to the hard disc drive

my question is if i reset or clear the bios/cmos by the jumper , will it remove the password that i set to my internal HDD ??
is the HDD passwords are stored in the bios/cmos ??

thank you

Hey,

If by set a password to the hard disk drive you mean set a password to Windows, or some other OS or program then resetting the CMOS will not help as the password is stored on the hard drive.

The only type of password that can be removed by clearing the CMOS is usually the BIOS password. Resetting the CMOS will not remove any password that is stored on your hard drive.

Hope this helps!

i am sorry i am so much stupid in the laptops and i didn't know that they haven't jumpers in their motherboards , but yeah i do know they have the cmos battery

no i have an option in my laptop that allow me to lock the harddisc , is there anyway to unlock it if i forgot the password ?

On just about all modern laptops removing the bios battery will reset bios settings to defaults but not the bios/admin password as they are saved on NVRAM which is not cleared by power loss, which is why forgetting the bios level passwords on a laptop can get real expensive.

That's as far as we can go without breaking our Rules on password advice. We don't wish to help someone hack into another person's system and from here, I'm sure you will understand that we can't be sure the laptop is yours. You need to take it to a professional, provide proof of ownership and let them handle it. They may well say it can't be done.
