Will some MoBo's not allow a PC to boot if the Stock Cooler isn't properly seated?

Just wondering, do some MoBo's not allow the PC to boot without a Stock Cooler in properly?

Starting a PC with the heatsink not attached properly can damage the CPU in a matter of seconds. You may receive an error message if the CPU fan is not connected.

This. The pc will stack in boot screen indicating that a cpu fan is missing and won't let you go on.

still able to boot but when it hits max temp it will auto shut down
