Hello!
I'm new to the newsgroup.
How do I approach getting a better deal from Sprint PCS?
I currently am considering moving my number to another service.
Thanks!

It all depends on how long you've been with SPCS, what plan you are on now,
your payment history, and whether you are on an annual agreement now and how
far into it you are.

Call the customer service number and ask for cancellation.
Tell them you are presently shopping around for your best deal. That
department is authorized to give you their best offer. If you don't
think the offer is good enough you can ask for more, and if you don't
think you're getting a great deal you can say "thank you" and continue
shopping.

I recently got a good deal on a two year renewal. I have been
with SPCS for five years with a perfect payment record. Several years
ago I negotiated a renewal deal for myself as well. The important
thing is that you be satisfied with the service. If you are not, then
no matter how much they offer you, you'd be silly to accept it. You
say that you are thinking of going to another service. The question
would be "why?". If another service offers features that Sprint
doesn't, or coverage that is better, then you may be out of luck. But
if you are simply looking for better value for your dollar, SPCS is
very capable of working with you there.

Good luck, DGI

Then ask them for the cancelation department.

Are they open late, or should I call during business hours?

I've been a low-volume (~$30) business plan customer for 5 years.
Currently that gets me 300/8pm + $5 WirelessWeb. Retention called and
offered 7pm if I resigned a 2-yr. However, when I called regular
customer service to look into replacing my dying handset, all I got
was the std $150 offer in exchange for a 2-yr $35 300/9pm + $15
Vision. By choosing a 3588 I could forego the Vision, but either way
I'd either be paying more or getting less.

Anyone else had any luck "negotiating" at the low end? Or should I
look for WirelessWeb models on ebay. If so, suggestions?

I like the Samsung A460, but they tend to have screen issues. The Sanyo
5150 is about as strong a Wireless Web handset as you're likely to find.
The Visor Phone has always had my curiosity, but I've never tried one.
Think precursor to the Treo 300 and you're about on track. The Samsung
SPH I-300 is a color Wireless Web PDA phone. On the lower end the
SCP-4700 is an amazing phone, but weaker on the web. The Uproar looks
very nice to me - but I can't give up my vision!

Use the Cancellation/Retention route:

Use Google to find the Retention FAQ. Some folks just keep calling until
they get the deal they want.
