I am currently using the wi-fi from a powerline to connect to the internet but my roommate uses wi-fi. I was wondering if he also got a powerline to replace the wi-fi, would it slow my internet down?

Without detailed info on your particular setup, it is impossible to say.
But for 'internet' going to the outside world...it already all goes through the same pipe from the modem.

How you connect to the modem may differ, but a 20mbps (or whatever) pipe from your ISP does not care about the connection between you and the router.
If the power line supports more then 2 in a house at a time it shouldn't slow down your internet. The only thing that would affect your internet speed is if your roommate were to be downloading and hogging your bandwidth limited by your ISP (eg 20mbps download 3mbps upload)

The only thing that will change is your roommate will have a faster more stable connection.
