Will the 8700k become more scarce now that the 9x00 series is out?

I haven't been following computer components long, but I have noticed every time a new "series" of cpu launch then the stock of the previous series tend to be scarcer and the price tends to go up.

Now that the new intel line is out, can we expect to see the same with the 8x00 series?

As with any product, yes. Unless the retailer is trying to flush all the stock but with CPUs they typically don't expect price to either stay or go up slightly.

On the other hand the second hand market might get better as the "Gotta have the best" crowd upgrade to the 9 series and sells off their old hardware.
Here's hoping anyway. I get some good deals that way.

The price of the 8700 is going up and up and has been for about 3 months now. It has gone from AUD$450 TO AUD$600 in the last three months due to the limitation of 14nm processors stock availability. So its a little different this time around but until that situation is rectified or they migrate to 10nm chips you wont see a price drop in either of the two CPU models....
