Will the Amd fx6300 am3 work in my mobo?

The mono has an am3 socket but I've heard the fx series requires an am3+ socket. Will this CPU work in my system?

Yes it will work, AM3+ is basically a modification of the AM3 socket. I have an FX-6300 in an AM3 motherboard and there is no compatibility issues.

NO!!!! DON'T!!!

AM3+ CPU's like the FX series will not work with AM3 mobos. AM3 CPUS like the phenom II series will work in AM3+ MOBOs. the socket on the MOBO is backwards compatible but the cpus are not.

That's the CPU I'm looking at, it claims to be an am3 socket type which is why I'm confused. Is it really an am3+ seeing as its an fx series?

Yes I apologize the AM3 motherboard only supports Phenom series and Athlon series.

However you could get a better motherboard than the one you have now.

No, it won't work. Not all AM3 motherboards support AM3+ CPU ( most of them doesn't ). And if you get a new board, you'll have to reinstall Windows.

You shouldn't have to re install windows OS as that will be on your HDD or SDD.

There might be some 6 core Phenom II CPUs, but your board won't hold them well due to its limited power design. So you're out of luck with this motherboard.

He only has to reinstall if its an OEM system. If he built it and bought windows seven he has the rights to switch his MOBO anytime he wants.
