Hi, i currently have a setup with the ga-78lmt-usb3 and i want to know whether i can upgrade from my <deleted by moderator - this is a family friendly forum 🙂> fx 4100 to the 8350 to be optimized with my r9 270x.

Thanks, please tell me everything i need to know. I also plan on attempting to install the CPU myself seeing as i need to learn. if anyones got any tips or videos for that, that would be great thank you.

You need to verify which version of the board you have. The website shows 4.1, 5.0, 6.0 . They all support the FX8350 but you need to verify your BIOS version prior to installing the new CPU. The BIOS version number is different for each board revision.
Version 4.1 requires BIOS F3
Version 5.0 requires BIOS FA
Version 6.0 requires BIOS F2

according to 'canirunit' i have

BIOS Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Version Award Software International, Inc. F4
Manufacturer Award Software International, Inc.
Date 10/19/12

you may want to explain more because whenever someone says BIOS i have no ... clue

Based on the version F4 and date of 10/19/12 -- then you have a Rev 4.1 version of the board. F4 is also the newest listed BIOS for that board. Since that CPU requires F3 or newer you are OK on the BIOS.

So i am able to purchase this CPU and install it myself?

Yes you can install it yourself.

i have the 4100 no 4300. Can you link me to somewhere where it comes with a cooler? and also how to install it the cpu + cooler thnx

i assume i need a different cooler to put ontop. im not looking to spend much but i want something thats better than what comes with the processor. I also have no clue on how to install it so i'd like some advice on installing a cpu and the cooler. Thanks

if you're struggling for money i'd advise an FX-8320/8320E + new board over an FX-8350, since the 8320 is not much slower and cheaper allowing you to more upgrade in a more affordable way, as posted above I wouldn't required using the 8350 with this board due to the issues blackbird stated.

my issue isn't money, i just dont have any clue on how to install and take apart a PC to install a new motherboard i literally know nothing. and i cant carry my PC to any PC shops i have no means of transport to the nearest shop

Hi Kanewolf, i know it is an old thread, =S

I have (almost) the same configuration, CPU : FX 8350 and a MOBO: ga-78lmt-usb3
but, the revision of my mobo, is the 6.0, just as you noted :

Version 6.0 requires BIOS F2

but, FX 8350 requires F3, wich is in the revision 4.1.

does it mean I have to buy another mobo?

I tryied to update the BIOS but i don't see any updates for BIOS of mobo rev. 6 (only F1 and F2) ... if i look for the rev. 4.1 , it has a F3 updates.

I was able to run a DVD with linux and "installed" it on a SSD, but when i try to start the SSD it shows "Verifying DMI pool data.."

I wasn't able to boot from USB either.

thanks in advance
