It's been a long time since i messed around with my PC.
I want to upgrade it for better performance when gaming.
I'm looking to buy the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked ACX 2.0 - but I don't know if it will fit my system or run well at all.

I'm going to upgrade to 2 x 8 GB RAM aswell.

My current specs are:
Motherboard GA-78LMT-S2P
AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series 1GB
AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz
2 x 4GB DDR3 RAM
XFX 800W PSU

Any insight would be great, thanks

Do you have a tape measure or ruler ? Measure the opening from the slots to the edge of the opening.

If changing CPU, you'd want a MoBo to go with it.

Not enuff info... going to need to indicate your case model or the measured distance from rear of case to anything which would interfere with card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487076

Card Dimensions (L x H) = 9.50" x 4.38"

Here's the best article comparing various 970s that I have found to date.... the bottom third of pages 2 thru 4 is specifically interesting. Note tho that, after 1st saying that they designed the heat sink's 3rd heat pipe to miss the GPU on purpose, they redesigned the card and fixed that item.

Hi,

So based on your CPU and MOBO as far as I can tell it will work with your system. You may see some bottleneck from your CPU. I couldn't find how many PCI-E lanes that your CPU supports however your MOBO supports PCI-E x16 Gen2 which will support the 970. As far as I can tell you should be good to go with getting it, just know that performance may be SLIGHTLY limited by the rest of your system however I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Can you recommend a new CPU? 300-400$

I don't have anything to measure with right now. I'll bring something home from work tomorrow, and post again.
