Will the GTX 980 take advantage of a 144Hz monitor?

I'm going to be getting a new PC soon, and I've settled on the GTX 980 since it seems to be the best single card for its price. I currently have two 1080p 60Hz monitors, but I've seen the Asus VG248QE monitors that are 144Hz, and are also very highly rated and reviewed.

I'm wondering, though, whether a single GTX 980 will be able to pump out the power to take advantage of a 144Hz gaming display. While I'm a huge fan of high fps, I do also enjoy maxing out my games when possible. But I don't want to upgrade my monitors unless the 980 can get me a huge fps difference in most games. I don't want to pay a few hundred dollars just to go from 60fps to 70fps.

Will this card be able to get 80-100fps (or more) on most games on the market today and in the near future, while still being on max (or very close to it) settings? Or will the fps boost not be worth the money I'd be paying?

He's quite correct there's not much difference between a 970 and 980 at lower resolutions at higher ones the effects do come into play but not by much kind of like rich people shopping for a lambo or porsche (Most 144hz monitors are in 1920x1080 or 2560x1???) so 970 two way sli will take FULL advantage of the FPS and just come a little over 100 if you bought a single 980

980 is able to play many games at 1080p resolution with high fps on its own, and it is currently the best single GPU available.

However, I do not believe it is worth paying $200 extra or so over 970, especially since you are at 1080p.
