Hi guys, im building a pc this year with h97 chipset motherboard, and I'd like to buy the cheapest i5, this is the 4460 here... Will it bottleneck the new gtx960? Or should i go with the 4690?

Solution
Bottle necking depends on the game more than anything. If a game is heavily depends on the CPU then it could but only for most demanding games. Same can be said for the GPU depending on the game. This said the 2 listed CPU's are powerful and shouldn't have any problem. The second CPU would make little difference as it takes more than a little higher clock rate to make an impact. If you want a vast improvement you need to opt for the 4570k and overclock.
On the GPU side due to the gtx960 is set to be 1024sp its not going to be that fast. Leaks plus mathematical calculations both have placed the card just above the 760/r9 270X. Due to performance estimates I would expect a price of $179 but leaks say $200. If this is the case it...

Leaks suggest it will cost $250 and beat the GTX770/r9 280X. This is a better price to performance outlook.

I forgot to say that im not overclocking anything on my pc...
As for the games, I'd like to play NFS (Rivals, shift 2, the run, M.W. 2012), the very new racing game also: THE CREW. I dont know if they are demanding games...
The GTX960 ti, will be realesed with the classic version or I will have to wait???

Any CPU can bottleneck any GPU. Depends on the workload.

Without consideration of the specific conditions, in specific games, and specific visual quality settings (including resolution!!), there's no way for anyone to claim that a CPU won't bottleneck a GPU.

An i7-4790K can bottleneck a GT640 in the right conditions.

----------

Select a CPU that is well suited to the performance goals (FPS) you have in games.

Select a GPU that is well suited to the visual quality goals (resolution, detail, post processing) for your goal FPS.

Don't try to match the CPU to the GPU, or the GPU to the CPU. Doing so is a fundamentally flawed approach.

Those saying that any CPU can bottleneck any GPU are right, however it is an unfair answer.

For general gaming use, a 4th generation i5 will not truly bottleneck any single GPU. Can it be done, of course, open up fourteen wow windows and run some data analyis in ABACUS CAE and your graphics card will be doing nothing while your CPU sweats. PErsonally I have never done this, so I assume you will not either. You are good with the 4460.

(when i'll play, the only window will be the gaming) Thanks guys really appreciate that... if it helps i'm going to play on max 1080p single monitor... but if the fps are low enough i willl downgrade to the previous resolution... also im planning on Dual Channel 8gb 1600mhz for now...

At 720P and low settings, robocraft runs smooth ~45-60FPS on a GT520 (an HTPC GPU that isn't even intended for use as a gaming GPU).

However, in congested tier10 battles, the game bottlenecks on the CPU with 100% usage on a core, and ~15FPS.

CPU's bottleneck GPU's. The only way to escape this reality is to play boring single player games with low complexity.

From leaks they only suggest a launch for a 960 on Jan 22 but which or more than one is up in the air. There are 3 versions in play so it could be the gtx960ti boost/GTX965 1536sp version. Just have to wait and see unless more good leaks come out.

Im afraid of my motherboard because the on board audio inputs are too close to the pci slot :\... http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H97ME/ also the space is limitet (micro itx), especially when the gpu will be installed, only 1 pci could be usable...

No worries. Gigabyte made a gtx970 itx so its easy done. I'm sure they will be single slot GTX960.

No i dont care about the size of it, i really don't need like 6sata ports or 4pci's... Im not afraid about the length of my gpu since i will buy I very bigger case... i just afraid that the board of graphics card will touch the on board audio inputs...
