Will the i5-4670k last 5 years?

My gaming laptop finally (2.2 Ghz dual core and 260m) gave way yesterday and I'm looking to buy a budget gaming rig for 800 or less.

I'd ideally like it to last through the next generation of console games with no less than medium-high quality graphics on my 1080p monitor, would a i5-4670k + a gtx 760 do the job?

No compete system will be able to cope with gaming industry for 5 years with no upgrades. At some point you will have to upgrade to be able to keep up with the new titles.

The CPU might be able to last you 5 years, but you're going to have to upgrade the GPU at some point.

Without dipping into extreme edition processors, it's basically the best you're going to get for gaming since there's not often a difference between it and the i7's.

5 years is a big ask. It's at the top now, but I can't see it being relevant for gaming for more than ~4 years. Technology moves fast.

You'd definitely have to upgrade the 760 in that time period.

When games eventually start to use more threads, the i7 4770k will be noticeably faster. So it's pretty good for future proofing.
