I'm thinking of upgrading my i5-2500k to i7-3770k so i can get more cores for video editing. i've searched up that the bios version should be updated and it will work but is there anything else too look out for?

The BIOS doesn't need to be updated, since the I5-2500k is supported from the same BIOS version as the I7-3770K, which is 0201.... here:

There is nothing else to worry about, as the I7-3770K has a lower TDP compared to the 2500K(77W vs 95W)... the 3770K will produce less heat and consume less power.

If you have checked your motherboard specs and know it supports the chip with the latest bios then make sure the bios is updated before you install the new cpu and you should be good to go.
