So now I have an fx 6300 and r7 260x 2gb. I want to upgrade to an i7 4790k because I get low fps in DayZ. DayZ is so dependent on the cpu because every other game i play, I get around 50 fps. Will the i7 bottleneck my r7 260x 2gb!?

Thanks

Haha man, I don't disagree with everyone else 😀 But yes bottlenecking is referring to the instance where a component of your machine is underperforming in comparison to the other parts, limiting the machine's power. The quesiton you asked initially of whether the new CPU you want will underperform compared to the rest of your system is no. I then stated you graphics card will be the bottleneck, in other words the weakest component in your system :)

The two components will work together perfectly well...
Hi xCardinals7x,

As Meteors said, not a chance. That CPU is a top of the line processor where your video card can be considered sub-standard in comparison. Taking a look at some benchmarks (https://www.cpubenchmark.net/) will confirm what I am saying.

Your graphics card will undoubtedly be the weak point in your system, and it is much more important to your systems in regards to outstanding gaming performance in DayZ which is an intensive game. So put more money in the video card and less in the CPU if you wish to game like a pro 😀 although having a good CPU is still critical.

Yes , but while playing dayz, it uses about 4-5/6 cores and nearly 60% of each and barely touches my GPU. Even if it does bottleneck.. What happens? Noob question lol sorry

And also, why do you disagree with everyone else?

I know the fx 6300 doesn't bottleneck my GPU. I'm wondering if the i7 will bottleneck the gpu when I upgrade

Maybe I don't understand bottlenecking.. Basically I'm wondering if the i7 is going to be too powerful for the r7. As if the r7 won't be compatible with it..?

So would it be a GPU bottleneck? The r7 wouldn't be powerful enough for the i7?

In nutshell:
Bottleneck is basically when your CPU is not good enough and doesn't allow your GPU to work at it's full potential. A GPU will not bottleneck a CPU, since GPU govern the settings and details with which you can play a game. CPU is largely to provide it with necessary info about frames and stuff.

Even more simply, R7 265 is compatible with your CPU w/o ANY issues.

The two components will work together perfectly well, but any lack of performance from your machine will be due to the weaker video card. Meaning in a future upgrade, if you seek to improve overall gaming performance, your video card would be the target component to upgrade, rather than the newer CPU.
