Hi there guys! Sorry if this is a really noob kinda question but I've never switched out my CPU before and I would love some help.

I'm looking to upgrade my old i5 CPU to this i7 one since I'm looking to stream and my i5 just isn't cutting it. I'm told the extra cores and threads will definitely help.

I've checked that this CPU is an LGA1151 socket so it fits my motherboard and also the chipset is Intel so I think its compatible in that regard too.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, cheers! ^^

Also the 8600k is an i5 not an i7

But basically the 8 series CPUs need the Z370, H370, or B350 motherboards
The 7 series go with Z270, H270 boards (and most Z170 boards with a BIOS update)
The 6 series go with Z or H 170 or 270 boards

There are H series boards for 6 and 7 series too, I just forget that names.

Intel re-used the socket without maintaining compatibility with the latest CPUs

Thanks for the replies guys!

I've decided I'm going to go with norcalsc's answer of buying the i7-7700k.

I had no idea the 8700k wouldn't work with my mobo, thanks for saving me a nightmare!
