Will the i7-8700K run fine with an ASUS Prime Z370-P at stock (only turbo)?

Hey guys, currently I have an i5-8500 and an ASUS Prime Z370-P motherboard. Now I know that this is probably one of the worst Z370 boards for overclocking, but the reason I got it at the start was because I was going for the i5-8500 which is a locked chip. The i5 runs perfectly with this mobo, but I have decided to upgrade the CPU. Now, currently I don't care about overclocking but I still want to the get the i7-8700K because I will overclock in the future (so i7-8700 is not an option).

I want to know if the Z370-P is good enough to run the i7-8700K at STOCK for a while until I get a much better mobo and CPU cooler in the future. Also, will the i7-8700K turbo boost on all cores to its advertised speeds with this motherboard?

Thanks for helping.

Solution
Yes, the 8700k will run perfrectly fine at stock on that board and it will hold the boost speeds. Additionally, before you go buy another board for better overclocking, I would try your current board out. A better board may only net in 100-200mhz difference which may not matter much in the long run.

You will need a CPU cooler though. The stock cooler on the 8500 wont be enough to support the 8700k. I like the Cryorig H5 as a good cooler that wont break the bank. The Noctua NH-D15 is one of the best air coolers on the market, but it is expensive and I dont like the way it looks. Your case will define what cooler your can support.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I'm planning on upgrading both the mobo and CPU cooler. The Cryorig H5 looks great, but it isn't a liquid cooler. In your opinion, what is the best budget closed-loop liquid CPU cooler for i7-8700k?

I run a Cryorig R1 universal and can hit 5.1Ghz with my 8700k. Its not always about the cooler, 50% is CPU lottery, 25% is motherboard, and 25% is cooler.

A noctua D15 or Cryorig R1 will do just as well as a AiO cooler and you dont have to worry about pump failure or leaks.

Liquid coolers are not all that great. They are louder, more expensive, and break down more often than a big air cooler. And they may only keep your CPU only a degree or two cooler. But liquid coolers and fit in cases better and have better looks in my opinion. Just dont get a liquid cooler thinking it is that much better than an air cooler.

The Corsair h100i Pro is a good AIO. The NZXT Kraken x52 is another solid AIO. I would not get another brand and I would not go with a radiator that is smaller than 240mm. Smaller radiators just dont cool very well.

Considering you are putting a pump and water into an expensive electrical system, I would only get a good brand. Corsair and NZXT make quality products.

Ok I get it, so AiO coolers will cause pump failures and leaks? I wanted to get an AiO because people say it looks better and it performs better

The Corsair h100i Pro looks amazing. But will AiO coolers like this one ever break down like you said? I mean, people say it could, but does it ever happen?

Wow, and people still use AiO coolers most of the time

I have had a couple of pumps go down on me, but never had one leak. I would not worry too much about leakage. But these pumps have a lot of moving parts and they wont last forever. Whereas big air coolers only have a fan for a moving part. So they will last as long as the fan will last.

True, plus I only intend to do some mild overclocks, so any good air cooler like the one you mentioned would be fine.
Anyway, which is the best budget Z370 ATX board with thebest VRMs?

Hey thanks for all the help, but just one more question man, it looks like both the i7 9700K and the 8700K are about the same price. So can I just get a 9700K now and slap it onto the Z370-P and update the BIOS like people are saying. So, will the motherboard be able to run the 9700K with no issues at stock, turbo boost and all? I'm thinking of getting the Asrock Z390 Extreme4 later on.

Edit: I just checked and the price difference between them is like $20.
