Will the intel i7 4790K fit my motherboard?

I currently have a Gigabyte Z77X-D3H motherboard and I have been thinking about upgrading my CPU. Will the Intel i7 4790K fit?

Short answer, no. The 4790k is socket LGA 1150 and your motherboard has socket LGA 1155. Either upgrade the motherboard as well or get the i7-3770k.

No it will not. Your motherboard is a socket LGA 1155, and the i7 4790K calls for a socket LGA 1150

Adding to Joe's statement, if you have an i5, there isn't a need to upgrade to an i7 unless HyperThreading is needed.

That would not necessarily be true in some cases. Some games actually can benefit from HT and in fact, Dragon Age: Inquisition (in its current sadistic state) actually requires an i7 to even load the game from the title screen.:lol:
