Hello Tom's Hardware,
So, my friend decided to give me his old Nvidia GT 430 to put in my new duct tape steam box.
Here is the computer.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optiplex-760-Mid-Intel-E8400-Core-2-Duo-3-0Ghz-4GB-DVD-RW-Desktop-PC/231897799574

And here is the GPU.
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-430/specifications

So I saw this picture here, and got confused.

My question is, will that GPU work with the PC?

Thanks in concurrence!
-Tom

Solution
Yes it will work.
You need a low profile bracket for the graphics card for it to fit in the dell since it is smaller than normal desktop size.
Here is an example

One thing in to keep in mind is the power supply.
The power supply i believe provides less than 300 watts(somewhere between 235-250 W i believe)
The GT 430 requires at least 300W according to Nvidia.
Give it a try and see if it works.

Solution
It looks like most suitable low-profile GPU's will work in that case.

The GT430 uses roughly 50W, so it's more important to look at what power the REST of the computer uses and ignore the 300W recommendation.

If the PC used say 150W max, plus 50W for the GPU then that's 200W max and a 250W PSU may be okay.

Thanks guys! I think I can always switch out the PSU pretty easily. Other than hard drive speeds, on games like G-Mod and HL2, it should run pretty speedy on decent settings, right?

Yeah those games will run just fine with that card.

HL2 isn't too demanding. Experiment, but something like 1600x900, 4xMSAA, Medium etc may be a good place to start though you need to decide if you want to use VSYNC or not.

The Geforce Experience settings are aimed at 40FPS VSYNC OFF, but it's a one-click solution. I don't use it myself because as 40FPS is not my goal, plus it often suggests 2560x1440 as that's my native resolution even when 1920x1080 may make more sense such as getting a solid 60FPS VSYNC ON.
