WILL THE ORANGE DVD DRIVE Sata CABLE WORK WITH AN SSD INSTEAD?

So I intend on getting an SSD for my Dell Vostro 260 OEM pc. It has two serial ATA cables. One for the HDD I have which I'm keeping and one for the DVD driver. If I disconnect the sata data CABLE from the DVD drive, would I be able to use it for my ssd instead?

The cable is orange and I have 4 Ports on the motherboard..

I'll add pics when I have access to a pc.

You mixed bits and bytes but there are no sata 3 Gb/s and 6 Gb/s cables. This is a marketing trick to get people to buy new cables. Just like other cables with fake versions. Take a 15 year old sata cable (before there was anything but sata 1) and put it on a sata 3 port and see if there's a difference. There isn't.

That mobo only has sata 2.

He's pretty much correct. There are Sata 3GB/s cables and Sata 6GB/s cables but no hardware you run will see any difference between the two.

Ok, but what about the 4 slots on the motherboard. Are they assigned for a specific thing? So, are the black slots for HDD/SSD and blue for DVD Drive or are they all the same too?

They could indicate a data transfer rate cap, or they're just colored for aesthetics. What motherboard do you have? Even if there is a transfer rate cap, it wouldn't be something you'd need to worry about.

I don't see anything that suggests that there's an issue at all. Literally just buy a $6 sata cable and plug it in to either of the open ports and you should be good to go.
