Hello, this is my first post on this site, and I may appear a bit newbish.
A while ago, about two years, younger me thought it would be awesome if I were to build my own computer "like a champ". Not bad in theory, and technically I did do the job. For the past two years I have enjoyed the pride that comes from viewing a machine I pieced together myself. But recently...more specifically with the release of the GTA V pc port, I realize that younger me did a crap job of choosing parts. Being in college I had held off the idea of upgrading or rebuilding it, but with tax returns on the way (yay) I figured I held off for too long. I hope to replace and update the major components (motherboard, CPU, GPU) while salvaging some other parts (casing, hard disk, power supply, CPU water cooling unit, etc). Unfortunately, I am as much at a lost for solutions as before. I have selected some parts, but whether it will be an improvement or just a repeat of past events is in question, along with compatibility. Here are what I hope to salvage, as well as what I have now.
To salvage: Corsair Obsidian Series 350D casing (has a display window, will only accept Micro ATX or Mini ITX motherboards.)
Corsair H60 High Performance Hydro CPY Cooler
Corsair CX430 non-modular power supply
Corsair Vengeance RAM (2X4 GB)
Western Digital 500 GB Hard Disk
To upgrade (The Oops): Intel Desktop Board DH77DF (Mini ITX)
Intel Core i5 Quad Core LGA1155
NVIDIA GeForce 630GT (not sure how I found this old thing)
To upgrade with:MSI Micro ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97M GAMING
Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I54570
EVGA GeForce GTX 750 2GB
I am attempting to keep the budget around 500-600 dollars. I use it for gaming and want to enjoy some of the features this presents such as expandability and automatic overclocking. My serious college work and web browsing go onto a separate laptop. However, most of these units go right over my head. Any input and suggestions would be great. I am mostly concerned that my power supply won't fit onto the new motherboard. If so, I would simply forgo a new hard drive and go for a new modular power supply. Thanks in advance.
