So I found a really goood deal on both, where I can get dual r9 270s for $150. I'm wondering if I can Overclock the Pentium enough that it won't bottleneck the r9 270s? I have a z97 board and a Corsair H80i

The Pentium will run even an GTX 970 fine without bottlenecking, given it is a game that is not very CPU-dependant. Any game that is very heavy on the cpu will run badly with the G3258. If you run mostly single-threaded games (older games) you will be fine, newer games however demand more cpu-cores to run smoothly.

Not going to be any bandwidth issues with the CPU. But not sure I would want to try crossfire with it.

Nothing wrong with doing so though. With the Z97 board upgrading the CPU when you have more funds available and Broadwell CPUs are available will make a powerful system, and you are only out the cost of the Pentium.

you will have no problem whatsoever. you should be able to get around 4.6 ghz on that chip, and even though it is just a dual core, it performs extremely well. like really freakin good. I say go for it! when you say "2 270's for $150" do you mean that each card is $75 each? that is what i am assuming

Hope this helps!
