Hey guys
im building my nephew a PC
so i was wondering if i could pass on my i5 4690K to him
and get myself an AMD Ryzen 1600
will that be an upgrade?

I have a GTX 970 which i do not plan on upgrading soon
and i will be getting my nephew a AMD RX 470

so will the Ryzen 1600 be a good choice for my current build?

Solution
Depends on optimization.
But the 2 additional cores and hyperthreading will surely provide an edge and it's a newer generation so the difference will widen as time progresses

It depends on the location but where I am the 6GB 1060 is only 50-60bucks more than the rx470
At that minor difference, I'd give your nephew the 970 and get the 1060 for yourself (performance level of a 980)
