Will the W3570 work in the DX58SO?

Not showing the w3570 as compatible. Yet some sites I've come across said that any xeon with the same socket and that is LGA1366 compatible will work. Can someone confirm if the w3570 will work with the DX58SO motherboard? PCpartpicker doesn't even have this xeon in their CPU list.

If you search the other way around you get no match either http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Xeon/W3570_motherboards.html so I suggest they are not compatible.

Make sure you have the latest bios installed on the board and the xeon should work. I have an Asus rampage 3 extreme board and in the CPU support list does not show any Xeons on it, but can run a X5690 just fine. The only draw back i have found running a xeon is i could only boot with 1333Mhz ram instead of 1600Mhz.

I mean, I can buy the xeon anyway and install it just to check, but what would happen if it's not compatible? Could it fry my board?

Faalin, I posted that last comment just seconds after yours so I didn't get a chance to read your response.

OK that sounds reassuring. I mean the xeon isn't expensive or anything, I just wanted to make sure nothing would blow up when I put it together.

if it wont work the board will boot up but the screen will stay black.

The board does support a W3565 and W3690 according to this webpage https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/boardsandkits/desktop-boards/DX58SO.pdf

The W3565 is $8-10 on ebay and the W3690 is 100

Was hoping the W370 would work as it's somewhat better than the W3565, and the W3690 is too pricey. I guess I should just buy the 70 and test it out. At worst I'll take a $11 hit if I end up needing to get the 65.

Thank you for your help. Still strange how that page shows the 65 as compatible and nothing on the 70.
