Hi People! Right now i use Windows 8.1 enterprise, but i thinking about that to replace it with windows 10 because of the new directx 12. That's my only reason. Games, i don't play games., i'm absolutely not interested from games.. I have Xeon E3-1231v3 (3,4GHz)/120GB SSD/16GB DDR3 RAM 2400MHz/ PowerColor PCS+ Radeon R9 290 4GB on 64bit Windows 8.1 with directx 11. I know, the only variant to use directx 12 is to install windows 10, will i have better performance with directx 12 or no? I make rendering, animation, video editing, effects etc.? Does it make sence to replace windows 8.1 with windows 10 because of directx 12?

Solution
Generally, if you do not play video games, you are not going to receive most of the benefits of switching over from DX11 to DX12, whose primary advantages are found in Direct3D applications. If you do 3D offline rendering like with 3DS Max, you may find improved performance in viewport rendering if Autodesk releases a DX12 patch, but you already have a very powerful R9 290 GPU for that purpose.

Updating to Windows 10 is generally a good idea, as compatibility is good and performance improvements are easily observed. Note that as a Windows 8.1 Enterprise user, you will not get the same upgrade notification that Home and Pro users get, and instead will upgrade through the company or person who holds your Enterprise volume license.
