Will there be a difference in gaming performance if i have 8GB memory or 16GB of memory

I have an FX 8350 and I plan on getting a GTX 970 and I don't want to hold the GPU back

No difference, I have two machines with 16GB and 8GB, nothing noticeable.

go for it. the gtx 970 is a great gpu and 8 gb or ram is sufficient for gaming. No game till date uses more than 8 gb of ram
