Will these new parts give 60+ FPS 1440p?

I just got a 980 ti, and it's performance is being cut by my other cheapo parts I got originally when I was on a budget. I play games such as GTA V, Far Cry 4, but in particular would like to play Watch Dogs 2 when it comes out at the best quality. I just want to know if the parts I have listed below will allow it to reach it's full potential, or at least very close to it, while also making the upgrading process as cheap as possible.

CPU:
I was thinking about an i7 2600 on Gumtree for £115 near where I live. That's as old as I think is ok for gaming, if not, there are a couple of i7 3770's on ebay for around £140. At that point, though, I would get an i5 4460, which of these is better? There aren't many great deals for i5's on ebay or locally, but feel free to recommend something completely different.

Mobo:
I currently have an AMD processor and motherboard, so I would need a new one of these. I don't really care about fancy features, so I can save some money here. Does the chipset affect performance much? Can I just get by on a H-chipset or is something like a Z significatly better? Otherwise I'll just click Price - Low to High and get the first thing I see.

Ram:
I already have 8GB DDR3 Ram (in the form of a single piece). If I get another mATX mobo it will probably support single channel memory and I won't have to buy anything, right?

I have a 500w Evga power supply, do you think it will be able to handle an i7 and a 980 ti?

Thank you in advance

Solution
Considering your needs and seeing as you need a motherboard, you would be best served by a new Skylake i3 system. Persoanlly i would also get some DDR4 ram if you can afford it.
Keeping ram:

You will find the i3 for ~120. And dual channel is not that important if you don't game on integrated graphics.

Most sources I've seen suggest that a dual core CPU will be great for a mid range GPU, but will slow down a high end one like the 980 ti. They recommend an i5. Will DDR4 really impact gaming performance much anyway?

The i3 i linke will game better than both an i5 4460 and an i7 2600. While a dual-core, it has hyperthreading, and as such works as a quad-core as far as the system is concearned. I am not in the business of giving bad advice on Tom's.

Look at teh gaming benchmarks here: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1645?vs=1198
That's an i3 6100 equivalent compared with an i5 4690, which is ~17% faster than an i5 4460 like you wanted to get.
It will nto bottleneck a 980ti.

As for DDR4, it's effect will be slight in most games(Fallout 4 like fast RAM, though), but, DDR3 is a dying technology. If you get a new platform, it's worth it to spend a little extra to get some DDR4 and a motherboard that supports it, instead of a DDR3 MB.

Thank you for that, I didn't how good an i3 could be. As for RAM, what is the optimum speed for gaming?

Do GTA V and (when it's released) Watch Dogs 2 count as high end games and therefore benefit from faster memory speeds such as 3000 MHz?

You don't need so fast memory it's overkill . And you get lower fps in games the higher they get . Only games such as Crysis 3 and doom would need so fast memory and maybe watch dogs 2 . But it is waste of money. You pay more and you get less. Buy 2400 MHz -3000mhz to be cool in all games.

No, they would not. The difference would be marginal to imporceptible unless you game on integrated graphics.
Also, only z170 motherboards support ram faster than 2133 and they aren't merited for an i3 system as they are expensive and don;t bring much to the table for that CPU. Just get the cheapest 2133 DDR4 from a reputable manufacturer(crucial, kingston, geil). Considering how cheap ram is these days i would suggest a 2x8 kit as it's totally worth the $20 differenmce from an 2x4 kit.

dont get i3 AT ALL

VIRTUAL REALITY VR from OCCULUS RIFT demands i5 3.4 GHZ MINIMUM for VR

BAD CHOICE is i3 for the FUTURE

scroll down for Recommended PC Specification

@OP what ever you do , dont get near i3 !! bad for the future ! GTX 980 ti is awsome for VR , dont waste it.

Get At Least i5 - 6500 !!!

no one buys i3 with GTX 980 TI !!!! i3 with TITAN X performance ?

Does not need articles , people with GTX 980 TI dont go BELOW recommendations !

you are asking tricky Question , but this will never get you anywhere , because OCULUS RECOMMENDS i5 !

we follow the manufacturer recommendation thank you very much.

Go for it.
While, obviously, there is always something better you could get, it all comes down to budget, so, if the i3 6100 is all you can afford get that as it will suffice. On the other hand, if you can get an i5 6500, get that instead.

The i3 is a low power card, but I chose a motherboard with 8 pins for the CPU so to support an i5 or i7 in the future. I know how high end the 980 Ti is, but following the manufacturer's recommendation would tell you that it is a cut down version of the GM200 chip found in the Titan X (Maxwell), making it a bad point of reference when including prices.

Speaking of prices, I got my 980 Ti for a steal at just £200 (used). A new graphics card costing £200 would probably have about half the performance at the same cost. If I could afford a brand new 980 Ti, I would also be able to afford an i7 but this is not the case, hence why I am on the forums asking for help.

I am also not willing to shell out another £700 for a 1st generation technology, VR. Maybe in a few years...

The GTX 980 ti is the same speed "in Games" of Titan X if not more with non reference cards.. the cut down is no big deal .

The Motherboard you chosen lacks M2 slot , which is important for future M2 SSD NVME cards ...

and it lacks USB 3.1 as well

Change it
