I want to play VR, and I wanted to see how small of a budget I can use to make a VR system. I know the the 1660 TI will run pretty well for the price, but is it good paired up with a Ryzen 7 1800X? I plan on doing some other games as well, though I don't need 4k and if push comes to shove, I don't need 1440p either. And I don't plan on using anything really CPU hungry. Is there anything even cheaper that I can get?

As long as you have 16gb of memory then that system will handle the Oculus/Vive smoothly. Depending on the game you may need to tweak some settings but for the most part you should be able to run most games on medium to higher settings in VR.

For a monitor 1440P would be ok if you don't mind turning down some settings. A good pairing would be a 2560x1080P/75hz/IPS/Freesync (29"-34") ultra wide as long as your games support 21:9. To use the Freesync with a Nvidia GPU you would need a DisplayPort cable and follow these directions.

Well, as long as your system has more than 8GB ( 12 GB are recomended for 60+fps ), even a 600 or 500 dolars gaming PC can play big titles like Superhot VR at 60fps. Hope I helped.

In many cases, people do not pay enough attention to the importance of display screen when designing VR. A good display screen brings VR not only the display screen, but also the sense of reality, which is the reason why VR is popular with people.

I have worked with Topfoison https://www.topfoison.net/ and used their 5.5 inch and 6.0 inch display screens, which are very good for VR.

5.5 inch: https://www.topfoison.net/product-detail/small-5-5-inch-lcd-display-modules-tf-lcm55005a-n-s0/
6.0 inch: https://www.topfoison.net/product-d...ft-lcd-display-mipi-dsi-interface-hdmi-board/

Hope it's helpful to you.
