You could spend less on the case and motherboard if you wanted, also you could just get a hyper 212 and save a lot. I have an Asrock motherboard and it works well and I got it for $130 for my 3570k @4.5Ghz a few years ago.

With that you could buy a 980 if you wanted, then make sure you have a nice monitor, keyboard and mouse. You might want a razer deathadder or other mouse, and a mechanical keyboard with lights so you can see in a dark room.

If you have a micro center near you they have good prices with the processors and you save $20 if you buy the motherboard with it.
