Will this be good enough for 1080p 60fps gaming from High to Ultra settings? Overkill?

Hi, I am very excited about my new project, my first pc build.

Case: Phantek p400 Tempered Glass
Storage: Seagate FireCude Gaming SSHD 2TB 7200 RPM
Mobo: ASUS ROG Crosshair hero VI AM4 x370
GPU: ASUS ROG Strix Gtx 1080 8Gb VRAM (OR) ASUS ROG Strix Gtx 1060 6Gb VRAM
PSU: EVGA SuperNova 650 G1 (Is this good enough?)
RAM: G-Skill Tridentz RGB 16gb (2x8Gb) 3200Mhz ( I am well aware of the risks concerning using this ram, BUT MAN IT'LL LOOK GREAT)
OS: Win 10 64 bit Full version
CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 8cores/16 Threads 3Ghz (3.7Ghz Turbo)

Upcoming: Samsung 850 EVO 250Gb SATA III SSD (Only for OS)
After quite a few months worth of researchs and looking up prices, etc here's what I came to and I wish to know if this will achieve what I'm aiming for: 1080p gaming with 60+FPS ranging from High to Ultra, or maybe is the GTX 1060 a better option? Let me know

Games that I'll be playing;

Watch dogs 2, GTA V, Ghost recon: wildlands, Squad, Arma 3 ( Expecting to not get 60fps on ultra...), Dishonored 2, The Division and upcoming games...

This is my last step, everything is ready to be bought, I really need your opinion on the GPU though, that's my last bit I'm struggling on, is it worth 300$ more for the GTX 1080 or will I just do fine with the 1060?

a 1060 will do high 60+ fps easily at 1080p

a 1070 is more than enough to so the same in ultra settings



specifically for gaming as the only concern you are better off going intel


though if you also want to do work on the side a 1700 is not worth the price difference from a 1600

I'm hearing that games will use more cores in the future as some of them already do, which is why I went with Ryzen, I know Intel would've given me my FPS that I'm looking for but the difference in too small about 5ish % for 100% more, I'll also be going to college in the near future, I believe that's when the 8 core really comes handy, also, I was told that Ghost recon wildlands was very CPU demanding and even more when hosting, does 8 cores or even 6 cores be a better solution in that case? Because I was at some point also considering the i7 7700k

Oh also atm, for only 40$ I can go from a 1600x (originally planned) to a 1700 + a nice cooler I like and 2 more cores 😛

What's your budget for everything?
Stick to either the 1600 or 1700, as the price diff is small, and they both come with good stock coolers.

This PC is coming up to 2264.22 CAD$ which to be honest, is hitting over a little over the limit, I was trying to get around the $2000 and not more but it's fine, not more though. Thing is, I know if I remove the RGB ram, go with a ROG Strix Gaming board F version over the Crosshair hero VI, Drop from the 1700 to a 1600, from a GTX 1080 to a 1060 and going on.... I could get this for around I would say $1700 + Shipping wich would save me lots of money, yet not exactly the theme I'd like to go for, there are sales right now on Newegg.ca which would save me a great amount of money here. Maybe I could have a 2tb HDD for games and files and with the little extra saving, putting an SSD in there I don't know. Let me know what you think, what you had in mind.

I was aiming for a full sync with Asus AURA build like black and with some RGB but that's a very good price for what's in there, I wouldn't mind it as long as the case isn'T open haha... I could drop the 2TB SSHD and take just a regular 1TB HDD for games n pictures and use that extra saved money for an SSD, does the tag on the PSU matter? Bronze, silver,gold, etc?

the tag does not matter, the quality of the unit matters

yes a hard drive + sdd is better than a hybrid drive
