Hello boyos (and goyos?). Well im going to purchase a 1170 / 1180 when they release (Not FE), and i can't decide wisch one of them because i am afraid it will bottleneck.

I currently have the following setup.

I5 6600K
16gb 2666mhz ddr4
m.2 960 evo 250gb
2000+500gb HDD
650w psu
Gigabyte gaming k3 mobo
msi 970 4gb

I will replace my 970 with either a 1170 or a 1180. Which one should i go for since i don't want bottleneck. Or should i first upgrade my cpu or possibly overclock it?

So should i go for a 1180 or a 1170. Or none at all and upgrade cpu? Or just overclock my cpu.

All answers are appriciated.

Sorry for my bad english, it ain't my primary language.

Hi linus.bra01,

It depends on the game.
But in most of them, quickly, you will be limited by the processor.
Indeed, you "only" have 4 thread and now, games will eat them all.
A minimum of 4cores/8threads or 6cores/6threads is recommended.

Your generation (the 6th) is dead, the only thing you can do is to go for an i7 6700k but does it woth the money?
Your choice.

I would recommend you, if the budget is not a problem, to go for the 8th gen or to Ryzen.

What do you mean by bottleneck? This is a term that is overused and very often mis-used.

Some games are more CPU and thread dependent. A lot of games are more GPU dependent. It depends on what games you're playing.

Graphics card and monitor resolution + refresh rate are more of an issue a lot of the time. The GTX 970 is solid for playing 1920x1080 @ 60Hz. You really don't need a more powerful video card except MAYBE for the absolute newest AAA titles, OR if you are running a higher resolution than 1920x1080.

Nobody knows what the performance of the next generation of Nvidia cards is going to be.

I would suggest not making any changes unless your current system is falling short in some way.
