Will this build cool a R9 390 effectively or should I go with a GTX 970?

Solution

4GB is plenty and will be plenty for a long time. There are only so many games that consume that much vram right now and I know of plenty of gamers still using 2GB cards without wanting or needing to...

Honestly, I'd save some cash and go with the 970, as you are gaming at 1080p. If you were doing 4k, then I'd say stick with the 380. As to temps, thats a good case so shouldn't be an issue.

There is only a dollar difference from where I live, and also is 4gb enough vram for a few years?

Exceptional isn't the first word that pops into my mind. That Fractal R5 case is great but its not the best for exhausting a lot of hot air which is what that 390 will put out. It is designed to be a silent case and it reminds me a lot of my old Corsair 550D. If you are set on that GPU then I would suggest getting a case with better airflow like the Fractal Arc Midi R2. If you really are set on the case though I would get the 970.

I actually want the 970 more but is 4gb of vram enough for 1080p gaming for the coming years?

Then consider the 390 will consume almost 100W more power at load and put out enough heat to warm a room in the winter. If you can get a 970 for around the same price its a no brainer go that route.

Ok, but is 4gb of vram enough for gaming in the years to come?

Ok, I will go with the 970 due to how it keeps cool and doesn't use nearly as much power as the 390.

Thanks for the help!

That depends on the resolution. At 1080p and 1440p its the sweet spot card but not anything higher.

Yes. At 1080p 4gig is plenty for years to come. I love my GTX 970 so much, I got 2 even. :p

I don't know where you are ordering from but the price between the 2 in the US is significant. http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/6968/zotac-geforce-gtx-970-amp-extreme-edition-video-card-review/index.html

I'm ordering from Australia, the part market is really messed up here. They both cost $519 AUD

Thanks for helping!
