It says the card is GDDR2 that is the only thing im confused about i dont know much about that and dont know if its important.
Dont know if that is a mistake in the description of the card but I dont see GDDR2 on my computer specs anywhere it only says 4GB DDR2 800 for the RAM.
If I have a DDR2 motherboard would it run a GDDR2 card?

The system RAM is separate from the discrete video graphics RAM. It should work. Why do you want to add the 8500 GT?
Thank you very much!
I need to delay buying a new computer probably til next year and my original Nvideo GT 8600 burnt earlier in the year and i got a junky ATI card in there that doesnt even support DirectX 10!

I can get this card new without the driver CD. Do you think ill have a problem getting a driver to work from from Nvidia's driver download page?

Im asking because I read review for this card it says
Cons: bad software support. Requires the user to open account in order to download anything, and when you do that, there's nothing to be downloaded. Not a single bios update nor a driver is available.

Those cards are old enough that all of them now have bad software support, other that whatever driver archives nvidia retains, there essentially is no support at all, you are at the mercy of whatever is left to be found.

No need to register or any thing else.
Go here.
thank you that's where i usualy go.

I just saw this card is supposably 229 mm and the 8600 i had was 170 mm.
I tried to put my 560ti in there and it wouldnt fit and its 229 mm too.
Its weird how a 8500 is bigger than a 8600.
Damn
Is it possible the XFX version of the card is smaller than 229mm?

what are you doing with the pc? Also if you are using it for gaming, you need an entirly new system, that core 2 quad that is in the pc is way too old and weak to run modern graphics cards.

Might I suggest. As long as your Windows is 7/10/or11

Thank you but im running Vista 64 lol

Well kudos for your patience, next year can't come too soon, but honestly even the igpu in Any modern cpu is considerably better than the 8500/8600, whatever you end up with is going to be like moving up from a bicycle to a kawasaki 1000 race motorcycle.

As far as brands go, size isn't a standard. Every brand and copy-cat brand has its own cooler ideas, some even having custom pcb's, so there's simply no saying if one brand will fit and another won't, it's all on the actual model itself. The GT1030 for instance, has 2 fans, or 1 fan or even passive 0 fan models, so will come in different lengths accordingly, which even then may be different to another brands vision of 2 or 1 or 0 fans.

So just like with mITX builds, it's often about shopping for actual dimension, not just ability. I don't know of anyone who would object to a Noctua NH-D15 or 360mm aio on their cpu, but case dimensions often preclude such large cooler use. So instead they have to settle for the best ability they can get, that somewhat fits in the budget, but also fits in the case.

If your case is that dimensionally challenged, then maybe the AMD cards suggested by @Unolocogringo would be a better option, they are backwards compatible with Vista, especially considering Vista and Win7 are essentially the same code and use many of the same drivers. It opens up extra driver choices since Vista is often not on the 'supported' listing for driver/apps choice, but Win7x86 and Win7x64 often are.

There's no question that the card will work. I actually have a Palit GeForce 8500 GT 1GB Super+ and it works in any motherboard with a PCI-Express slot.

Just don't expect it to be more than a video adapter at this point.

okay thank you!
Only thing im concerned about is i understand from reading this card overclocks and i dont need it for that i dont care about overcloking.

i only need a decent card that has DirectX10 the ATI card im running was a spare when the original card died and it only accepts DirectX9

Could i have any problems from this card overclocking? i dont know much about it.

If you don't care about overclocking, then don't worry about it.

Well, even the most basic original GeForce 8500 GT supports DX10 so you're fine there.

Overclocking a card as old as a GeForce 8500 GT won't make any difference anyway. Just use it as-is and you'll be fine. 😊👍
