From what you said yes, the CPU will only support the speed of 1866MHZ while in a dual channel config, if you use a quad channel config it will turn the memory down to 1600MHZ

Your link isn't working for me.

While the memory would operate at 1600MHZ it would also probably operate at a lower timing but you would probably be better of going with a 1600MHZ memory since its cheaper. Going faster on memories is not always helpful since the timing also goes up, the best bet is to find the memory that has the lowest timing for the frequency that fits your hardware.

For 1600MHZ memories the lowest timings i came to find was 7-8-7-24 but recently the best i got when i updated my system was 9-9-9-24

You have too much RAM for a gaming build. Get 8gb and use the saved money for a better GPU. This will drastically improve your performance. Get 1600mhz or 1866mhz RAM as it is all the 8350 supports.

one of amd and one of nvidia - both provide max. power for a single monitor gaming rig

also a R9 280 and a lower end 770 will work

I'm glad Don piped in. I don't know if I would recommended such a powerful GPU and CPU with a piss poor motherboard. Balance is key.

Yeah. I personally wouldn't go microATX with AMD either. The motherboards usually suck and there's not much room for ventilating the hot FX chip. Intel works a lot better in the micro ATX format. You certainly shouldn't be overclocking on those mATX boards.

Just something to consider. I would get an ATX case and ATX motherboard (M5A97 R2.0 or Gigabyte 970a-ud3). There is money in your budget for it (from the money you saved if you were to get cheaper RAM).

(Still assuming you can't spend more than the total cost of the parts listed)

Thanks for the answers guys. I am going to go with a midATX due to the limited space I will be having in my college dorm room. I think I am going to cut down the ram to 8gbs while beefing up the motherboard and graphics card. I eventually want to make this into a dual monitor setup in the future, but for right now I am going to stay single monitor. I need something relatively fast due to my computer science classes. So I think this should do it. Thanks guys!

What software are you planning to be using for CompSci? Some programs run WAY better on Intel and even a bottom barrel i5 will smoke an overclocked 8350 in some certain applications.

I am currently unsure of the software for compsci. I am going to have an inspiron 17 1700 series laptop to run various software as well. I Would it be better to run all intel?

It would not really be better or worse. As a CompSci student it is VERY unlikely that you will need to run anything taxing at all. Nothing like professional compiling or anything like that. I would say you are perfectly fine.
