I currently have an i3 3220 in my current build. Back when I first built it I was doing a budget build, but now I would like to make it a whole lot better. I want to gradually change different things in the build. First a new chassis and motherboard, then a new processor. Didn't know if my 3220 with a socket of 1155 would work with the 1150 socket on the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard I would like to get? Thanks in advance for whomever can help, JSN58.

Last socket you use other socket cpus in (that I know of) was LGA 775 (You could mod Xeon LGA 771 cpu's with a pad mod and then chop a piece of the socket key off to allow them to fit) and even that was only because the cpu cores were the same. Intel just swapped a couple pads around and put 2 plastic keys on the socket in a slightly different spot for the Xeons VS Mainstream Cpus... In most sockets everything is majorly different and they will not fit and if you force then they would just fry and break stuff..
