Will this CPU HSF be good enough and will it fit?

Good morning, afternoon or evening depending on where you are in the world

i would like to ask if the hyper 212 Plus is a good enough hsf to cool my new cpu, I5 3570k 3.4Ghz, if I wanted to start over clocking it?
also does somebody know if this cooler will hit on a asus sabertooth motherbaord? i know it fits my case but i read about clearance problems with this hsf.

Hi there,

Well first of I want to advise you to get the "Evo" version of that cooler, NOT the "plus". The plus has horrible grooves cut into the heatpipes that sit on the CPU, these can be a pain in the butt to fill with TIM (Thermal Paste) and means that there is less direct contact area. The Evo is a few £$ more but it's definitely worth it.

As for it being good enough, well that depends on how high you want to OC. If you're talking about 4.0Ghz-4.4/4.5Ghz then yes it will be sufficient unless you have a bad chip that runs extremely hot or requires a very high voltage to get it to OC.
If you want to OC higher, I would recommend you get something better or maybe consider a custom water loop.

Regarding the clearance question I'm guessing you mean clearance over the RAM??? Well I have the Hyper 212 Evo (Same size as the Plus) installed on my Z77 Sabertooth and I have no clearance issues with RAM. I have 16GB 4x4GB of Corsair Vengeance High Profile installed and the cooler is orientated to suck in air from the front of the case and a second fan pulling air out towards the back of the case.
It is a tight fit, I have about 1mm space between the fan and the closest DIMM, so you may want to check and compare the size of your RAM to the Vengeance HP.

Hyper 212 is a good mid-range cooler at a low-end price. I'd measure your clearance and check the cooler's specifications to make sure it fits -- 120mm HSFs are LARGE -- the fan itself is 4.7 inches. If it's too large, check out the dual-fan 92mm Hyper N520. I have it and it works really well. Max temps on my i5-2500k @4.4Ghz are about 65C (and that's during the summer with two 5850s dumping half their heat into the case).

thanks lads thats great. i was going to use 2 sticks of 4gb corsiar veng 8gb in total, but i wasn't sure is i would need the low profile stuff.

If you're only going to have 2 DIMMS installed then you will be able to orient the cooler in all directions, but with 4 DIMMS it will only fit horizontally exhausting to the back of the case.
