Hey, I was looking to upgrade my CPU and was wondering can I just switch the cpu's and play instantly.

Current Processor: https://www.custompcparts.ie/cpus/processors/amd-fx-4300-3-8ghz-4mb-l3-box-processor.ireland.direct.gaming.components#.Wfh7A2i0OUk
The one I want to buy: https://www.custompcparts.ie/cpus/processors/amd-fx-8300-3-3ghz-8mb-l2-box-processor.ireland.direct.gaming.components#.Wfh67mi0OUk
Motherboard: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/760GM-P23-FX.html

also was wondering if this cpu is a good choice, Thank you in advance.

The CPU will work fine on your motherboard and it is an upgrade from the 4300, but neither are very good chips, so don't expect miracles. I would not buy the 8300 unless it was a very good deal because that platform is dead. Dumping any amount of money into the AM3 platform is throwing good money after bad.

If it were me, I would use the 4300 and save my money for a new platform upgrade and look at the Ryzen 1200.

This is only to prelong the life a year maybe less, good news for you is that the new games benefit more and more from high core number. One game that worked nice on high core cpus since the FX series is battlefield, it was the only game were amd has been side-by-side with intel because it could use all the cores (bf3, bf4, bf1 all of them). Now all games started to follow the trend and for one good reason, they cannot obtain the performance needed for the new graphics particle simulation and stuff like that from a single core so they had no choice but to use multiple cores.

In this case, the 8300, as opposed to the 8350, is a 95W chip, so fewer throttling issues.

That being said, going from the 4300 to the 8300 doesn't really have improved single-core performance, it'll only really provide a boost in games that can effectively use several cores. Saving up for a Ryzen is a much better idea.
