It will only work if the motherboard BIOS has been updated to version F40.

It will definitely work. The entire B450 motherboard range is designed for the Ryzen 2000 range specifically. While it would also work on the B350 (which was made for the 1000 range).
The B450 is the “midrange” type of motherboard. Providing decent amounts of power supply and features to extract nearly every capability from all of the Ryzen 2000 range CPUs (including that R5–2600). The X470 is effectively just adding extra voltage level controls and a few more peripheral features. If you’re not going to manually overclock, then a B450 is more than sufficient.
