Will this cpu work with my motherboard?

It says on PCPartPicker I may need a bios update prior. Does that mean I need a different processor to update my bios in order to use this one?

Sorry for such a novice question as I am new to AMD builds. Any help you be greatly appreciated! 😀

Considering how old the 6300 and 970 mobos are, you'll be fine

Msi is very good about staying on top of bios upgrades. It's a very broad statement by pcpartpicker.com that covers pretty much any fx cpu with a 970 or 760g chipset. It's years old, so it's long since out of date for any of the later built motherboards. You'll be good, the 970 Gaming's probably the best budget mobo there is, better than some 990fx boards.
