My motherboard is Asus M2A-VM HDMI with an AM2/AM2+ socket. It uses DDR2 RAM. The CPU I want to get is an AMD Phenom II X4 945 95w, which I believe is AM3, and I have been told it uses DDR3 RAM, but can it use my DDR2 RAM?

Solution
You are going to have to find a Phenom II 940 for that motherboard. It's an AM2+ Cpu, and will work. Same essential architecture as the 945, but different socket and without ddr3 support. Overclocks well though, I had one for 4+ years and loved it. Still a very valid, budget gaming Cpu too.

:edit: Wow, nevermind. Supports the AM3 Phenom II 945.

So that's a yes? I've been told this is the best CPU my board will support so I'm about to buy it, but I've gotten many yeses and many no's on whether or not it will work with my board
