Will this gaming desktop build work? (First Build)

HDD: Sata II 7200rpm 1TB
RAM: 16GB DDR3 (4X4 sticks)
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 550 Ti 1GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P
Samsung 24x DVD/Re-writer
Case: CiT Vantage Midi Gaming Tower and 500Watt PSU
And of course Windows 7.

I need some peoples thoughts please. I'm trying to keep on a low budget (Under £450) and I already have a nice monitor here at home.

Any reason for selecting 16gb of ram? It seems very overkill i recommend downgrading to 8gb.

Yes sorry, I know 8GB is the standard, I'm not sure about the memory at the moment.
