I wanted to buy this m.2 drive (Corsair Force MP600 1TB M.2 SSD) but I realised there are different PCI generations. I don't really know how they work so I wonder if the m.2 drive i mentioned will work on my current motherboard. The motherboard I am using is the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX motherboard.

The M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD you want to buy will work on the B450 Tomahawk MAX motherboard but it will run at PCIe 3.0 x4.

I would recommend you do not spend 190 dollars on a PCIe 4.0 NVMe and instead buy a 100 dollars 1TB PCIe 3.0 NVMe.

You will save some money. A B550 or X570 board is needed for NVMe PCIe 4.0.

Some choices.
