Will this MAX out BF3?????

ok i am about to upgrade my cpu ( newegg is having a deal) i am going from an athlon ii x4 645 to a phenom ii x4 965 be... my ram is 4gb of xms3 and a gtx 560..

people have been saying my cpu is bottlenecking the gpu cause i can only run it on high with my 16000/900 monitor.

my question is will this cpu allow me to max it out!?

maybe but probably not. you will probably need a little more cpu and gpu power even at that resolution.

Properly overclocked who knows, anything can happen. Though in order to max out battlefield with that, you would need a miracle. The 560 when supported by a high clocked cpu, and overclocked properly, should theoretically be able to handle bf3 on high/ultra settings. I'm not particularly a fan of AMDs phenoms, as for the same price you could get the intel i3 2120, which manages to beat phenoms in gaming, despite only having 2 cores. Sadly, you do not have a mobo with the proper sockets to support an intel. So, to answer your question, you should be able to hit high with some ultra settings on battlefield with the right tweaking to your CPU, and GPU.

Edit: I managed to run "going hunting" (mission on bf3) on medium details with ultra textures on a gt540m overclocked, so you should have no problem hitting high details.

I used to run i5 760 (better than the x4 965 BE) with the msi 560ti twin frozr(384core)(1gb) and 6gb ram, BF3 wouldnt run smooth on max settings at 1680x1050 (in multiplayer, didnt play singleplayer).

I am now running an i5 2500k with 8gb ram and the same graphics card and BF3 still doesnt run smooth at full settings, which i believe is because of the 1GB ram on the video card. So i think to run BF3 on the absolute max settings you would need a video card with more than 1gb of memory.

This was all done before february so there could of been patches or driver updates that have improved things since then, but from what i heard its down to the 1gb memory on the graphics card.

At stock clocks with that GPU, most likely not. CPU clocked over 4Ghz and a better GPU or 2 then probably yes.

You'll get better performance, but you will not be able to max out BF3 with that rig.

64 player mutliplayer? I've seen benchmarks with a 6990 and it wasn't possible, but it was with I think a stock Phenom II X4 970, wish I still had that webpage bookmarked. Than again with your 4.2Ghz it could very well be possible.

I agree the i5-760 was a bad-ass chip, I had one too and clocked to 3.52GHz.
(really saver at 3.3-3.4GHz).
it loved to be overclocked but the fact that it doesn't have an unlocked multi really blows.
anything over 3.5GHz and the voltage had to be raised even more, without superior CPU cooling then that's the limit.
the 965BE with an unlocked multi can hit (3.8-4.0GHz) on auto and all other power saving settings enabled.
so now what's better, a 965BE running without much effort to overclock @ 3.9GHz on air cooling with ability to go farther on air
or an i5-760 @ 3.3GHz with the voltage turned up.?
not a trick or smart-ass question, I want your opinion.

and TBH, add an SSD to both systems and you might not be able to tell the difference...

I had my 760 oced to 3.8ghz @ 1.25vcore, i nearly had it at 4.2 ghz (i say nearly it was probably not close but i wanted to believe it was ;p) If i had to choose between the i5 760 and 965BE id choose the i5 760 even if it couldnt overclock it as much as the 965BE. On games the i5 760 beats the 965BE by up to 30fps, and im not sure how much additional overclocking would be needed on the 965BE to catch up to the i5 760.

No, that CPU-GPU combination will not be able to handle bf3 on maximum settings. It will however be able to smoothly run everything on high without overclocking. After overclocking your parts, you might be able to squeeze out 30 frames per second, with a few of your settings on ultra.

If I set my CPUto X6 it can hold 60FPS at only 3.8Ghz lol. I have the shaders unlocked on both cards which essentially makes them 6970's plus a bit of an OC on them so the CF comes out being a decent margin more powerful than a 6990. Sometimes drops to mid-low 50's in very extreme boom bang situations but for the most part i hold 60.

I am running the game maxed even with a single 6970 with a 1100T, I really don't see how much difference the CPU's can make, but what is clear is that you need a GTX570 or 6950/70 minimum to max out at that resolution. Also you can consider tweaking the options, a casual gamer will never tell the difference between High and Ultra textures, but will notice drops in FPS, so tweak them down a bit and play with higher FPS.
