I ordered an A68H mobo, but ended up with the A78M board. Will it support, even unofficially, the 860k OUT OF THE BOX? Reaaally dont want to order another board again, waste of time.
Running a compatibility check on pcpartpicker.com, it says "Some AMD A78 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Kaveri CPUs." So it should work.
It should, what is the board specifically? You can check the manufacturer page to see a list of supported CPUs.
its an F2A78M-HD2 from Gigabyte. I dont have any other FM2+ or FM2 cpus around so cant update the BIOS at all. Just really want it to work today instead of sending it back
In 2014 the BIOS was updated to support it. There is only one BIOS before that which did not support the CPU. IMO it's a gamble. I'd just return it. If somehow you got the F1 bios, you'd be screwed.
