Hello, I have a friend I am trying to help.

He is getting a Gigabyte AM3+ GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-6Gbps-Socket-Motherboards-GA-970A-DS3P/dp/B009FC3YJ8/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1517006209&sr=1-1&keywords=am3%2B&th=1

He has this card
gpu -MSI Geforce GTX 1050ti low profile
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137081

Will the motherboard have enough power alone?

He has this board currently - mind you the gpu turns on and runs games, but fans wont spin.
Even tried using msi afterburner and manually setting them. Nothing. We did check to see if the fans were plugged into the card itself.
mobo- N68-GS4 FX R2.0

doesnt seem to work, any workarounds or do we need another board?

Strange. It could be an oddball problem with the motherboard, though I'd guess at some irregularity in the PCIe controller than a power condition. If the card doesn't require additional power from a power cable than a standard PCIe port is designed to be enough; the specification dictates the total power limit for a slot (75W). At any rate, the suggested board appears to be compatible.

I do observe that the new board has a different chipset than the original, so you will likely need to reinstall Windows to get it to boot. Depending on your version of Windows and type of key it may give you a hard time with activation: a retail key (slightly more expensive when first purchased) has transfer rights and new updates to Windows 10 make transferring activation easier if you sign in with a cloud account.
