Will this PSU support a Fermi? Is the 470 worthwhile?

So I have the below listed PSU in my rig, and recently had to return my Radeon 5850 due to significant driver problems with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I've heard that a GTX 470/480 requires 4.2A on 12V rails, and I'm wondering my PSU meets these requirements. I imagine it would, as newegg was offering combo deals with fermi 470gtx + the 600w version of the same PSU, but I'd like to confirm this before making a purchase.

A little off topic, but I'm also wondering what advice people could give if the 470gtx is worth buying at all, due to the high heat and noise levels (power consumption isn't a big deal to me...already own a Plasma so I'm in the thick of it). It's primarily a gaming and HTPC card. I refuse to buy another 5xxx series ATI card due to compatibility issues and the headaches they've already caused me...so my options now are to either get a 470, or wait until the next generation of cards comes out as I have a $309 gift card that will expire in 1 year. I'm using an old 512mb 4850 in the meantime, but gaming performance is less than desirable at high settings.

Thank you for the prompt reply, I thought it would be supported but wanted that extra confirmation.

I'm actually still kind of 50/50 on whether to get the 470 or wait it out. The heat issues are a little disconcerting and I'm afraid it will raise the system temps and force me to lower my current OC on my phII x4 965 to stock 3.4ghz (currently @ 3.7ghz air, not huge but helpful). When I returned the 5850 I agreed to use my store credit at equal or greater value, so the 470 is currently the only non-ATI card that I feel is reasonable in that price bracket ($309+). I can deal with my 4850 through the summer, but I'd rather upgrade (I had to steal the 4850 from my girlfriends crossfire setup...)

Are there any fermi owners out there that are happy/unhappy with their purchase? Would you recommend pulling the trigger now or waiting for a revision at an undetermined time? More importantly, has anyone run into problems with Win7 64-bit and nvidia drivers?

The GTX 470 requires 42 amps. The OCZ 700W modular hast two 25amp rails.

If you plug in cables, one from each rail, it should give you 50 amps of total power to work with.

Ok now I'm a little confused. The OCZ PSU has 2 PCIe connnectors and the fermi should have 2 inputs for these just like the 5850 had. Does this just mean I have to connect both of the PCIe connectors as I expected, or is there some kind of special configuration needed?

Not correct Rofl. It has 552W TOTAL on the 12V rail. 552W / 12V = 46A, not 50. CT1615 already said it has 46A, and I'll take his word on the 38A needed. He should be fine with that PSU.

As for heat, as long as you have some good case air flow you should be fine again. If need be you can always use the house fan trick until you can improve it.

I love that post. As I've been saying for a long time, single vs multi doesn't matter. What matters is a clean output, and enough connectors to power your devices.

Grab the 470 for sure. It's been an awesome card for me. Heat and noise issues are slightly overblown and are really no worse then previous nvidia generations.

I also picked up the eVGA 470 (non OC model) when I built my new rig and have had no issues yet. Still need to pick up the eVGA software for it and I don't have a display to really push it (right now I have a 19'' that is 1240x1080 max) but I've been able to play everything i own at full high graphics without even a hiccup.

Yeah as long as you've got good airflow you'll be fine, I had to flip some of my fans to be exhaust fans because I was hitting 90C but since then it's been coolin' fine!
